Desmond (Des) Nicholson
Orthotist Prosthetist
Des, Orthopro’s Managing Director, trained and worked as a Senior Orthotist Prosthetist at a major State Hospital from 1979 to 1994 before owning and managing a private orthotic and prosthetic facility in South Africa for eight years. The company provided orthotic and prosthetic services to Private, Medical Insurance, Workman’s Compensation and Road Accident clients. Des provided a medico-legal service and testified in court when necessary.
After immigrating to New Zealand in 2002 he worked for the Orthotic Centre Wellington for two years before leaving to start up Orthopro, and also worked part time for the Artificial Limb Centre Wellington in 2006-7.
In 2004 Des established Orthopro to service the Greater Wellington Region with occasional clients seeking services from as far afield as Invercargill.
Des has a passion for Orthotics and Prosthetics which has not diminished over the years and still likens his work to “going to play school everyday.”
